About Sentinel

Built from a life outside

Sentinel Mountain Co. wasn’t born in a boardroom. It came from a lifetime of ranches, ridgelines, river miles, elk camps, backroads, and always wanting just one more day outside.

The founder

A lifetime in the field

Sentinel Mountain Co. started long before it had a name.

I was raised in Merlin, Oregon, on the Gun and Four Color Ranch, surrounded by quarter horses, paint horses, buffalo, and more open ground than a kid could ask for. Behind us was BLM land. We hunted elk and deer, fished constantly, shot skeet with my grandfather, and spent more time outside than in.

My grandparents came from the Texas Panhandle, and my family carries a mix of Swedish, Norwegian, Scottish, and Southern roots. That background shaped the way I was raised: work hard, know your land, take care of your gear, and learn to do things the right way.

My father, Steve “Wilkie” Wilkinson, served on the Los Angeles County SWAT team and taught me to shoot with discipline — from long-range fundamentals to CQB and room clearing. As I got older, that foundation mixed with years of Montana hunts, Washington hunts, backcountry trips, Jeep builds, off-roading, camping, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, and long days on the trail.

The outdoors has never been a hobby for me. It has always been where life makes the most sense.

Over the years, I kept running into gear that looked the part but failed when it mattered — packs that were too heavy, clothing that could not handle weather, products that fell apart too early, and equipment designed more for marketing than real use. After 47 years of hunting, hiking, camping, paddling, riding, and living outside, I know there is no single perfect piece of gear for every job. Sometimes you need something bombproof and rugged. Sometimes every ounce matters because you still have miles left to cover.

Sentinel Mountain Co. exists to bring those lessons together in one place: gear chosen by someone who has actually used it, needed it, broken it, and learned the difference.

Field proven

Gear should be chosen by use, not hype.

Rugged when it matters

Some equipment needs to survive hell. Some needs to disappear on your back. Knowing the difference matters.

Built for more time outside

Every product should help you stay out longer, move better, or come home with a better story.

One life, many pursuits

Hunt. Hike. Camp. Overland. Paddle. Ride. Live outside.

Why we build

24 hours more

At the end of the day, most of us are only asking for a little more time out there. Twelve more hours. Twenty-four more hours. One more morning in the mountains. One more night by the fire. That is what Sentinel is built for.
